Cory MacDonald is the president of the Choroideremia Research Foundation, Inc. He is 39 years old and is legally blind for about 11 years now. He knows what it is like to have eyesight and he knows what it is like to go blind.

The CHM Research Foundation was formed about 3 years ago. Our goal is to end this disease via cure, treatment or both. We also work at outreach, such as this support group. The foundation raised about $30,000 last year through donations, fund raisers, memberships and sponsorships. The foundation spent less than 2% of it’s revenues on expenses provided research to find a cure for Choroideremia over 98% of it’s funds.

Save The Children’s Eyesight was founded by the Scott Family who have three children affected by the disease. The reason for this charity is to support the Choroideremia Research Foundation by helping to raising funds. The charity also plans to support other research foundations that are working on childhood blindness diseases in the future. The charity is made 100% of volunteers and will not collect any funds, they will pass them on directly.

There is about 2000 children in the US that have tested positive for the disease. Unworthily there are several children and families that can be affect by Choroideremia and are unaware of the disease. This is because testing for the disease are relatively new and symptoms don’t show up until the child starts suffering loss of eyesight and severe headaches.

The foundation is totally self supported receive no financial help from the government or other organizations like United Way. Although the foundation is small and limited they have made tremendous strides in keeping the research going to find a cure. The research has made a lot of progress and has identified the cause and is now working the cure. The answers will led to finding cures for other related disease that cause childhood blindness.
